Join us for February Artwalk as we feature local artist Yvonne and poets from Mellow Soul. Along with the Civic Media Center, we will hosts artists, poets, vendors, and activist organizations to celebrate Artwalk. In honor of Black History Month, artwalk will be centered around uplifting and celebrating the voices and narratives of our local black community.
Please join us Friday night to support local black creative community.
Short and sweet, Yvonne just wants you to know this...
I make black art to share black love in the hopes that my brothers and sisters elevate their self perception to the level of art and love that I see in them.
Mellow Soul Featured Poet A. Denèe:
A. Denèe is a proud Detroit native. She earned her degree from Wayne State University, where she was published as a Ronald E. McNair scholar. A TRIO alum, A. Denèe decided to give back through education as a reading/writing lab instructor in the Upward Bound program at the University of Florida. A. Denèe began to perform at Mellow Soul Tuesdays, where she became a participant in the resurgence of soul art in Gainesville, Florida and was encouraged to seek publication.
In 2015, she co-founded “Generation Soul,” a free poetry and open mic workshop at several Alachua county libraries. She is active in the Sickle Cell community and leads events to raise awareness and funds for local organizations and people living with the disease.
