Come join Mike Byerly and "Hutch" Hutchinson for a "Get out the vote!" party on August 4th from 5pm - 7pm at Wild Iris Books. Early voting for the upcoming primary elections begins at 10:00am on August 4th. (352) 375-7477. About  Mike Byerly: After serving on several citizen advisory committees, he was elected to the Alachua County Commission in 2000, and has served three terms. Mike owns and manages rental properties in Alachua County. Mike is married to Busy Shires Byerly, Assistant Director of the Conservation Trust for Florida, and they live in an off-the-grid solar home near Micanopy. A little background on Mike: Born 10-11-63 in Newnan, Georgia Moved to Gainesville with his family in 1979 Graduated from Buchholz H.S. in1982 BS in Zoology from Clemson University in 1986 BA in Journalism from University of Georgia in 1989 Two years graduate study in Ecology at the University of Tennessee electmikebyerly.com  352-466-7030 About Robert "Hutch" Hutchinson: Hutch is a candidate for the seat being vacated by Commissioner Paula DeLaney.  Hutch is currently the Director of Alachua Conservation Trust, and he has worked for a number of environmental organizations including The Nature Conservancy and the Southeastern Forest Trust. He was a County Commissioner from 1998-2002, where he focused on growth management, consolidating the E-911 emergency communications center, and funding the new courthouse.  Hutch lives with his wife Meg, the former City Arborist, in Flamingo Hammock in southeastern Alachua County.  Hutch's education includes a BA from Emory University in psychology, and graduate work at UF in architecture and urban planning. Alachua County needs to regain a progressive majority on the Commission if it is to retain a basic social service safety net and protect our natural resources, particularly water.  Hutch supports the Community Agency Partnership Program where the County contracts for medical, nutritional, and sheltering services from local charities.  He served on the Board of the Chamber of Commerce for six years, and supports Innovation Gainesville, an effort to transfer medical and technological innovations from academia into the marketplace, while creating and retaining local jobs. Hutch has worked as a professional planner, and believes our transportation future must have a balance of automobile facilities along with improvements to transit, bicycle, and pedestrian modes.  Hutch was a leader in Alachua County Citizens for Campaign Finance Reform which passed charter amendments to reduce the influence of money in local politics, and was involved with making government more transparent by posting Commissioner e-mails to a public website.
